Stockton Superior Courthouse

Stockton, CA

The new Stockton Superior Courthouse provides service for the State of California judicial system and the San Joaquin community. Located in the historically significant Hunter Square area, the facility creates a significant contribution to Stockton’s civic space. To support this aim, PB&Co designed a series of secure, sustainable pedestrian and garden environments that offer both active and passive zones. Landscape features include a Northern entry plaza, an Eastern pedestrian paseo and a renovated Main Street mall plaza, each of which safely combines pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

The north and south plazas are composed with a hierarchy of open spaces framed by large shade trees to accommodate a variety of uses and potential civic events. A water feature integrated into the base of the building wraps the northeast and southeast corners, and runs the length of the east facade along the pedestrian paseo. The plant palette is comprised mainly of drought tolerant native and adapted plants that require minimal maintenance.
